Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) assessors are accredited professionals who evaluate the energy efficiency of homes.
NatHERS assessors provide practical advice on how to reduce home heating and cooling needs and guide the selection of energy efficiency features that contribute to a more sustainable and comfortable home.
For existing homes, an assessor visits a house to collect information to prepare a Home Energy Rating certificate, incorporating both a thermal performance star rating, and an assessment of the energy use of the entire home including appliances, solar and batteries. NatHERS for existing homes assessors must be accredited, whether they are collecting data on-site, completing off-site modelling or both.
For new homes, an assessor uses home designs to provide a star rating for thermal performance and a whole of home rating for energy use to meet or exceed requirements in the National Construction Code. Not all jurisdictions require new home ratings to be conducted by a NatHERS accredited assessor.
- A certificate that displays the NatHERS logo and can be printed in colour is produced by an accredited assessor
- A non-accredited report without the NatHERS logo and only available in black and white is produced by a non-accredited assessor.
Accreditation provides assurance that the rating is prepared by a qualified person who:
- undergoes quality assurance checks
- completes ongoing professional development, and
- adheres to a professional code of conduct.
